Today's class was basically a work period for the poetry anthology and the back channelling session tomorrow with PHSS. You were also given time to find poems for your poetry analysis.
There were a lot of questions about what types of poems would be acceptable for the anthology. Here's what it boils down to:
- Your poems must be written by a REPUTABLE POET. That means, Joe Schmoe, who wrote a poem about butterflies and daisies, DOES NOT COUNT!
- Your poems should be related to a theme in some way. Note that on the handout, I gave you a list of really general themes. Choosing a really specific topic means that the poems you find may not be that great (see point #1). For example, choosing a sport like soccer means the poems you find will probably not be written by reputable poets. Therefore, choose a theme that is broader in scope so that you can creatively link your poems and your topic.
- You may choose song lyrics for your poems. Make sure they are appropriate for class. If I cannot play them for my four year old, they are not appropriate. Check with me if you're unsure.
- You must choose poems from THREE DIFFERENT POETS!
In addition, there are a few ground rules for the back channelling session tomorrow. They are as follows:
- Sign in to Today's Meet with your first name and your school. For example, Joe GCI, Sam PHSS.
- Be appropriate. Any groups posting inappropriate comments etc. will be SHUT DOWN. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Good luck! And have fun!
