Learning Goal:
Students will learn how to write found poetry.
Found poetry is defined as poetry that is created by taking words, phrases, etc. that is taken from "found" pieces of writing. These can include newspaper articles, magazine articles, or really, anything!
We looked at two types of "found" poetry today.
1.Find a News Article or a Magazine Article
· Identify the key points in the piece
· Circle words and phrases that stand out
· On a separate piece of paper, create a poem from the words you’ve circled
· You must try to retain the main idea of the article.
Example: "Parents"

Just to prove this was a real incident from a real newspaper article, take a look at a primary document that has an article about this situation.
Next, we looked at another type of Found Poetry.

· Do not worry about the content of the article.
· Circle words and link them to create coherent sentences and phrases
· Colour over the rest of the article in a creative fashion so that only your words and links are visible.
