I finished the fault in our stars a while back, but just haven’t had time to actually type out my thoughts on it. Overall, I found it to be pretty devastating, as I already said. I can relate to this novel on a lot levels.
As a parent, I just can’t imagine what Hazel and Augustus’ parents are going through with having their children be diagnosed with cancer and then having them go through horrific treatments. The uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis is what scares me the most. Its true that old saying, that parents shouldn’t have to see their children die.
From my own experience and from what I’ve heard from other parents, I’ve made plans for my kids. I know what I want them to do in life. I want them to be happy, I want them to experience joy, love, heart ache, and most of all, I want them to reach their full potential. I don’t want them to have those opportunities snatched away from them. And Hazel and Augustus, well, they just won’t be able to have all those opportunities.
I loved that Hazel and Augustus used each other in order to have as many of those experiences as possible. Theirs is a beautiful love story and one where they’ll always be young, and they’ll always be in love. They won’t get cynical with each other or fall out of love. Their story will last forever. And it’s beautiful.
