Learning Goal:
Students will review A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Students will review poetic devices.
Students will write an extended metaphor using the theme of life.
REMINDER! Your test is Thursday. Today we played Jeopardy to review the plot and events of the play. There is a practice quote quiz on Edmodo. Please do this quiz before Thursday and I will give you asap on your answers before the test.
Today we also reviewed poetic devices. These devices include:
In addition ... we looked at some "Life Metaphors/Similes." These included a quote from Forest Gump - "Life is like a box of chocolates ..." and from Irma Bombeck, "Life is a bowl of cherries, but what out for the pits!"
We also read two EXTENDED METAPHOR poems ...
Life as a Cat
Life is a sleek cat with soft padded paws.
I scratch his neck and he purrs loudly.
Playfully he rolls over on his back
And I tickle his stomach.
He pretends to fight my hand, and I laugh.
Suddenly his claws reach out and slash my fingers.
His teeth rip my flesh.
He turns and darts away
And leaves me wondering.
Bubble Gum
Life is a piece of bubble gum. It starts off
Fresh and juicy, with plenty of zip
And gallons of give, and a million bubbles just waiting
To be popped!
But then, the taste goes sour and turns to glue.
It sticks to my teeth and tightens my jaw.
And the only thing to do is toss it in the trash.
